Trifextra 77 – The Greatest Show

On now to this weekend’s Trifextra challenge. This weekend we are giving you three words and asking for you to give us back another thirty of your own, making a grand total of thirty-three words.Your words to work with are:

ring
water
stage

Good luck!

_____________

“We’re broadcasting live from the center ring! Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, I bring you…!”
The stage curtain lifted. A mermaid swam through fifty thousand gallons of salt water and tears.

______________

There were many inspirations for this. The more well-known references were back in the 80’s when B&B circus claimed to have an actual unicorn, King Kong, and how our popular culture/ society would re/act if any legendary creatures were ‘found’.

Trifextra 73 – Oh, Positively

This weekend we’re asking for 33 of your own words inspired by the idiom, third time’s the charm. This familiar phrase may have an indeterminate origin, but its meaning is clear. Whether or not you include the phrase itself is up to you. Just make sure to use exactly 33 words. And, as usual, have fun with it!

This experience is true, and less than fun.

“Got it, first shot!” the nurse bragged, or punned.
Well third time’s the charm actually, I thought sarcastically, watching the hematoma already beginning to blossom from two errant attempts in my left elbow.

Trifextra 49: A Slice of Life

On to the weekend challenge. As you’ll recall from your elementary science class days, the structure of the earth can be divided most simply into three sections: core, mantle, crust. Here’s a diagram.

Well looking at the diagram inspired me…well that, and another photo.

___________

Inside this circle, a gummy coagulation mixes with a hot red liquid (let it cool first!), with a crusty edge. Every culture has ideas for toppings/ enjoyment.

Basically, Earth is a giant pizza!

Trifextra 48: Excluded

“I feel I’m able to get rid of any demons lurking in my psyche through my writing, which leaves me free to create all of this and to enjoy our family life, stepping away from all the fictional traumas and the dramas. If I write about family in crisis, then I won’t have to live through it, I guess.”
– Jodi Picoult

This weekend we’re asking for 33 of your own words that exorcise a demon. One of your own, or one from your imagination. Let it bleed on the page.

I’ve never included childhood bullies (even as zombunny fodder). They would attain ‘immortality’; the creativity I have gained through introversion is victory enough. Besides… there are things even an undead bunny won’t eat.

Trifextra 44: Rebel Scum

For the weekend challenge, we’re asking you to write exactly 33 words about rebellion and/or revolt. Interpret it as you will, just keep it to 33 words.

If you’re planning a startup Empire- first, ally yourself with clumsy aquatic or adorable woodland species. You may not need them, but they’ve assisted rebels in many critical battles, and always (inadvertently) win.

Trifextra 41: What’s Happenin’

Andy Rooney created something called “The 50-50-90 rule: anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there’s a 90% probability you’ll get it wrong.” We want you to give us your own probability equation. Use whichever numbers suit you, and make it about whatever you like, but give us something to think about. In 33 words, of course.

Sounds like Andy Rooney hung out with Yogi “90% of this game is half mental” Berra, who also inspires me once in a while.

_______________

We spend 99% of our time waiting for something to happen. During that 1% of time something happens, 1% is ‘it’ happening. The other 99% is us wondering what the hell just happened.

Trifextra 40 – Write…Now!

For this weekend’s challenge, in honor of all of the writers throwing rationality (and perhaps sanity) to the wind and writing til their fingers bleed, we’re asking for exactly 33 words about why we write.

Why would I ever pass on the chance for this type of reference?! Sure I had to change it a bit, but it captures the essence of creativity for me.

As “Bleedin’ Gums” Murphy (sort of) put it,
“Writing is a fire in your belly that comes out of your fingers, so you better stick a keyboard in front of ‘em.”
