Trifextra 77 – The Greatest Show

On now to this weekend’s Trifextra challenge. This weekend we are giving you three words and asking for you to give us back another thirty of your own, making a grand total of thirty-three words.Your words to work with are:

ring
water
stage

Good luck!

_____________

“We’re broadcasting live from the center ring! Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, I bring you…!”
The stage curtain lifted. A mermaid swam through fifty thousand gallons of salt water and tears.

______________

There were many inspirations for this. The more well-known references were back in the 80’s when B&B circus claimed to have an actual unicorn, King Kong, and how our popular culture/ society would re/act if any legendary creatures were ‘found’.

Trifextra 73 – Oh, Positively

This weekend we’re asking for 33 of your own words inspired by the idiom, third time’s the charm. This familiar phrase may have an indeterminate origin, but its meaning is clear. Whether or not you include the phrase itself is up to you. Just make sure to use exactly 33 words. And, as usual, have fun with it!

This experience is true, and less than fun.

Well third time’s the charm actually, I thought sarcastically, watching the hematoma already beginning to blossom from two errant attempts in my left elbow.

Trifextra 57: Ketch a Flight

For the weekend challenge we’re asking for exactly thirty-three words written in first person narrative. Have fun with it…

__________

Looking back, I realized my decision was too hasty. Too many celebrities, not enough ships. Childhood promises rushed back- I should have been on that ship, to the moon base the 80’s envisioned.

__________

The title reference is to Heinz 57 of course, but this is not my entry for the Ketchup With Us writing contest, which you should also write for.

Trifextra 54: Fail-Safe

We want you to scour through your favorite pieces of literature and give us the best 33 words you can find. Some quick guidelines:

  • The writing you choose should not be your own.
  • The 33 words should be lifted directly from another source (i.e. don’t take 33 random words from Macbeth and shake them into a poem of your own (though that would be an awesome idea for another challenge) and don’t take a sentence from the beginning of a book and another from the end–keep the original order).
  • Credit your sources.
  • You can’t use the same 33 words as anyone else in the linkz. Skim through before posting your own. You can use the same author and even the same title, just not the exact same words

I took this excerpt from “Fail-Safe” by Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler. Published in 1962 (a movie was made in 1964), it deals with the Cold War (during the Cuban Missile Crisis in fact), but the description…

Trifextra 53: Zombie Bunnies – Leveling the Playing Field

For the weekend prompt we’re asking for exactly 33 words of dialogue.

Each and every week I think about how I can get more Zombie Bunnies in on this. There’s plenty of dialogue (but I am working more bunnies into the story). Anyway, the story is a little further along, and some of the characters are hatching a plan.

__________

“I’ll set off the bomb with this detonator.”

“This is an old game controller.”

“Yeah I made some… modifications.”

“Can this get us 30 more guys, y’know, backup?”

“Haha! Sorry, no cheat codes.”

Trifextra 51: The Fittest to Survive

We want you to choose one of the pictures below and give us a 33-word response to it. Your responses will be judged by the community this weekend. If you use the photo on your blog, you must include the attached accreditation (with active links)

Trifextra 49: A Slice of Life

On to the weekend challenge. As you’ll recall from your elementary science class days, the structure of the earth can be divided most simply into three sections: core, mantle, crust. Here’s a diagram.

Well looking at the diagram inspired me…well that, and another photo.

Inside this circle, a gummy coagulation mixes with a hot red liquid (let it cool first!), with a crusty edge. Every culture has ideas for toppings/ enjoyment.

Basically, Earth is a giant pizza!
